A High Peak group are combining fun with learning to read with the return of an exciting project to get more people interested in books.

Following a successful pilot last year, High Peak Community Arts (HPCA) are hoping more people will sign up to their ‘For The Love of Books’ scheme this time around, particularly those who are living in areas of the highest need.

Inspired by their favourite children’s books, storytellers, artists and musicians will deliver bespoke creative sessions in three Early Years settings across the High Peak, including in Gamesley.

The scheme will invite youngsters to play, imagine, explore and create unique child lead art works in response to the books specially chosen for them.

It will also encourage parents and children to learn and have fun together, train nursery staff in creative practice, and encourage early literacy.

HPCA say the ‘For The Love of Books’ project will not only help to ignite young imaginations and develop a love of books in children and adults, but increase literacy levels in children under the age of five and promote stronger family bonds.

The group have almost raised enough money to make the project happen but need to raise an extra £1,000 by August 24.

Kind-hearted people across the High Peak can donate anything from £2 to £100.

All donations have rewards which range from bags to poetry books, trips to artists’ studios and potted ornamental fruit trees.
