A part of Glossop and all of Charlesworth are gearing up for the snow – already!

Glossop county councillors George and Jean Wharmby will carry on as ‘snow angels’ for their part of the town.

While parish councillor Debbie Cooper will lead the Charlesworth scheme.

The ‘angels’ are part of a Derbyshire County Council initiative which sees voluntary groups set up to clear snow and ice from footpaths, particularly those outside the homes of vulnerable people.

Jean said: “Under the snow warden scheme, we get bags of salt and snow shovels and people do their own designated areas. The bags aren’t heavy.”

Cllr Cooper will receive Charlesworth’s snow-shifting equipment soon and will then be looking for volunteers to get involved.
